"I would never be without income protection. Without it we would have fallen into serious debt”

David’s story

Behind every claim is a person. Here’s David’s story.

“I work as a self-employed builder, so my health and ability to earn
a living keeps a roof over my family’s head. Fortunately, a friend
of mine recommended income protection as a product that would
cover me in case of illness or an accident.

In April 2014, I had a motorbike accident that resulted in a severe
brain injury.

The result of the head injury was life-changing. My balance had gone
and I couldn’t cope with normal everyday decisions and skills, let
alone return to my job.

After the accident I attended a rehabilitation centre to re-learn
some basic skills and multi-tasking. The occupational therapy I
received was amazing, we couldn’t have coped without the centre
and I doubt I would have made the recovery I had without them.
Without income protection we would have had to rely on my wife’s
salary and we would more than likely have fallen into serious debt.

Two years on, I am 90% recovered and back to my old job. There are
still times when things get too much and I have to sleep for long
periods, but compared to where I was a year ago it is amazing.
Since my claim, I would recommend income protection 100%. It
gave my wife piece of mind whilst I was ill, she knew that all my
business costs were covered and gave her one less thing to worry

I am now all too aware of what can happen when you least expect
it and I would certainly never be without any form of income

One of the products we provide is the Pure Protection Plan -

Cover for self-employed

Pure Protection is an income protection
plan for manual and physical
occupations such as David’s.

It offers key benefits that can prove invaluable to self -employed workers:
• Waiting periods start from Day 1
• Claims are only ever assessed on an ‘own occupation’ basis
• Clients can fix their benefit to protect against a regularly changing income.

“You can’t predict what will happen next in life. Income protection has been a life-saver”

Colin's Story

Behind every claim is a person. Here’s Colin’s story.

“I’ve been working as a rigger for the past 13 years, a physical job requiring rope access skills. In August 2014, I suffered a stroke at the age of 37. This initially left me paralysed on my left side, thankfully I regained almost all mobility over the...

I have had a medical insurance policy for years and am worried about changing companies. My premiums have gone through the roof recently and I have also made a few claims, what should I do?

April 12, 2016
Your enquiry is not uncommon and many clients often worry about ‘switching their cover’ at renewal or midway through their policy year.  This can be done; however there are rules and many medical insurance companies will take pre-existing conditions into consideration however most will have specific criteria of acceptance with conditions such as cancer, heart disease or mental illness.  Acceptance is always subject to underwriting and we specialise in saving clients hundreds sometimes tho...

Dont be scared to use your health insurance.. You do pay for it!

November 26, 2015
The number of times we hear, 'I saw the doctor and he did not think a referral was necessary', makes me think that we generally take what our local GP says as gospel.  But sometimes, and only sometimes, mother nature kicks in and we feel that we need to take our fight a little further.

Yesterday my wife took our son to the doctor for a persistent throat irritation, which to be fair is something that has been bothering him for a while.  He makes irritating noises to clear his throat and not onl...

To be or not to be!

August 28, 2015

To be or not to be... covered at the right hospital?  Twice in one week, we've had clients who have been caught out by a strange anomaly with some of the health insurance companies.  The problem is that if a child needs a specialist operation which can only be carried out at a specific hospital, the insurance company are refusing to cover the treatment because the hospital is not on the client's chosen list.

So where does the fault lie? And whom with? The initial consultation was a with an ap...

Insurance Premium Tax... I hear you say?

August 25, 2015

As part of the Summer Budget delivered on 8 July 2015, The Chancellor, George Osborne, announced that the standard rate of Insurance Premium Tax (IPT) will increase from 6% to 9.5% with effect from 1 November 2015. This will impact all contracts of insurance, and we recognise that there are many complexities that arise from this transition that you and your clients need to be aware of.

Pulling your hair out while looking at corporate healthcare renewal premiums?

March 28, 2014

Are you as an employer tired of sub-standard service levels and the endless cycle of changing insurer in search of better value for money?

Some have thought that self-funding in trust was the panacea only to find out later that the same insurance principals are used to pay claims so other than IPT savings there is no real value and no better service level!

Proactive Medical & Life Trust services are unique in the way we approach things.  We are in a prime position to approach all pmi corpor...
